Abstract Three natural streams in Wyoming were studied in order to estimate incremental conveyance losses associated with incremental increases In stream flow. For each study area, all surface water inflow and outflow was measured before, during, and following a significant reservoir release. With this data, conveyance losses were determined for the control period using a water budget analysis. The major losses were attributed to bank storage and a decrease in ground water inflow. The conveyance loss results for the three study areas ranged from 0.34 to 1.66 percent per mile.
