Numerical Simulation of Groundwater Flow and Contaminant Transport in an Alluvial Aquifer
Abstract
A nitrate sampling program was conducted in the vicinity of a rural municipality
to determine the source of nitrate contamination of the municipal groundwater supply.
A finite-difference groundwater modeling program was also used to determine the
direction of groundwater flow in the area. Results indicate that nitrate contaminated
groundwater is directed preferentially towards the municipal wellfield by unique geologic
features in the area.
