Snow Fence Influence on Soil Properties
Abstract
A study was conducted to determine if soil properties are influenced
by the zone of snow accumulation around snow fences in
southeastern Wyoming. Soils along transects perpendicular to three
snow fences on three different soil types were examined.
Results varied according to soil type and age of fence (duration
of enhanced snow accumulation). However, in general, soil pH
and electrical conductivity were depressed in the influence zone
of the snow fence and soil organic matter was enhanced.
